Tiernay Metals

A question we get asked a lot is "What happened to Tiernay Metals?" and "How can I get a copy of the Tiernay Metals Catalog?". We have a copy of a Tiernay Catalog, if you need it, no problem, just shoot us an email, or better still, go to our search page part number or search by shape or dimension to see all our shapes. A few of our team members, including myself were fortunate to work at Tiernay Metals and Benjamin Metals in the 1990's and present during the purchase and merger of Tiernay Metals, facilitated through Aerostar Capital, into the Transtar Metals family of companies. Both icon businesses and family owned/operated.

Tiernay Metals Merger

This was an interesting merger which included Pioneer Aluminum, Production Supply, Benjamin Metals and Tiernay Metals to develop the one-stop-shop. The merger was a little like management musical chairs, with the one exception, the first ones out were the winners. Tiernay Metals - Titans of extrusion

When it came to hard alloy extruded shapes Tiernay Metals was at the top of it's game, they were the largest stockist in the world ran by the Steinmetz family, with founder William Steinmetz in the 1960's. During my employment with Tiernay Metals Charlie Steinmetz mentored me and showed me how they followed the aerospace programs, rather than looking at the quotes and orders rather than being a reactionary like most companies. The process worked. However, like many acquisitions, when the family left, so did their "Secret Sauce". Aircraft Extrusion Co is made up of ex-Tiernay Metals employee's and we like to think that we are experts in the field of hard alloy extrusion and custom shape design..

Benjamin Metals meet Tiernay

We understand the manufacturing process, distribution and inspection of hard alloy extruded shapes, including secondary processes like seat-track hole drilling, anodizing and forming. Benjamin Metals, another cash-cow, with a steady turnover of 1M Lbs of aluminum a month other great purchase by the Aerostar Capital group. I spoke to Mark Benjamin and asked him why he sold out. He responded that one of the reasons was due to TMX/Boeing supply agreement ,The Millennium Contract as we called it, he felt the days of the single aluminum distributor were dwindling, how wrong, today through over consolidation it is almost impossible to find a one-stop-shop. As with both companies, Tiernay Metals and Benjamin Metals, range of materials, quality and service always came first. A recipe for success.
