Heat Treatment and age of 2024 and 7075

Heat Treatment is available for extrusions and tubing in excess of 12ft. We can heat treat and age to many tempers of aircraft grade aluminum.The majority of our material is heat treated during the manufacturing process. We offer heat treatment service on our stocked extrusions. We can take material and anneal in excess of 12ft lengths. Unlike commercial alloys like 5052 or 6061, aircraft grade aluminum require multiple stages of heat treatment, stretching ageing and straightening befor they are shipped to our customers.

Heat Treating Capabilities

Our extrusions can be heat treated from a number of tempers like 7075-T6511 to 7075-T73511 or Annealing to 7075-0. Our extruded shapes are heat treated by Astro Aluminum Treating Company in Los Angeles. There are three quenchant types available at Astro. Hot water quenching (140-160F) is used for forgings. Ambient (room temperature) water is also available. We have several quench tanks containing glycol/water solutions in various concentrations. Glycol quenching is normally performed, when allowed by specification, on thin, delicate parts. Glycol quenching reduces the amount of distortion that parts exhibit following quenching.

Check and Straigtening

widerSolution heat-treatment of aluminum alloys often results in some distortion of the material. Astro has a 12,000 square foot work cell that offers a full range of check and straightening capabilities to return your material to it’s original form after the heat treat process is completed. Many of our experienced technicians have been with Astro for over 25 years.Astro Aluminum Treating’s Quality System is based upon AS9100 and is accredited by Nadcap to AC7004.

We are proficient in SolidWorks and Autocad and can translate engineering drawings and designs. We work with designers, engineers and buyers daily. Provide cost analysis and feasibility studies for commercial and aerospace grade aluminum. Providing over the phone quotes on most custom from simple to complex. We can discuss feasibility, die charges and lead times for Extrusions and tubes.
