This was an interesting merger which included Pioneer Aluminum, Production Supply, Benjamin Metals and Tiernay Metals to develop the one-stop-shop. The merger was a little like management musical chairs, with the one exception, the first ones out were the winners. A few of our team members, including myself were fortunate to work at Tiernay Metals and Benjamin Metals in the 1990s and present during the purchase and merger of Tiernay Metals, facilitated through Aerostar Capital, into the Transtar Metals family of companies. When it came to hard alloy extruded shapes Tiernay Metals was at the top of its game, they were the largest stockist in the world ran by the Steinmetz family, with founder William Steinmetz in the 1960s. During my employment with Tiernay Metals Charlie Steinmetz mentored me and showed me how they followed the aerospace programs, rather than looking at the quotes and orders rather than being a reactionary like most companies. The process worked. However, like many acquisitions, when the family left, so did their "Secret Sauce". Aircraft Extrusion Co is made up of ex-Tiernay Metals employees and we like to think that we are experts in the field of hard alloy extrusion and custom shape design.
